WHO hands over digital infrastructure to the Ministry of Health and Food Safety to support the rollout of SORMAS in Nepal

Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – At the request of the Ministry of Health and Food Safety (MoHFS), the WHO Country Office for Nepal, with support from the Pandemic Fund, handed over 354 tablets and a dedicated server to support the rollout of the Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS) and strengthen digital disease surveillance and outbreak response in Nepal. The tablets will support municipality- and district-level officials with disease surveillance, data reporting and response activities, strengthening their capacity to detect, investigate and respond to disease outbreaks in real time. The dedicated high-capacity server will host SORMAS, an open-source digital platform that integrates reports from health facilities, communities and other surveillance sources into a single system. This enables faster identification of public health threats and supports timely, coordinated action. As SORMAS expands to community and local levels, the server will support growing numbers of users and increasing data volumes while strengthening system performance, scalability, availability and reliable data management. SORMAS rollout in Nepal is led by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under MoHFS, with technical support from WHO and partners.
